In the Shop-made Moldings class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of how to make any molding profile you need or desire. Don’t settle for commercially available router bit profiles. Learn to take control of your moldings.

 

Shop-made Moldings

The three-day Shop-made Moldings class begins with profile dissection. We’ll look at new and historical profiles to determine whether to use hand tools, power tools, or a combination (the vast majority can be made using power tools). Learn how to make simple jigs and fixtures to help you achieve the perfect profile.

 

 

Some of the skills learned in the Shop-made Moldings class are:

• How to analyze molding profiles
• Developing complete control of your router bits
• How to refine your moldings using a combination of hand and power tools

Materials are included in the class fee.

Each student should supply his, or her, own:

• Safety glasses and hearing protection
• Combination or machinist square
• Bevel gauge
• Bench chisels
• Carvers mallet
• Dovetail saw
• Marking gauge
• Smooth plane or jack plane
• Block plane
• Tape measure or folding rule

If you do not have the tools on the list, don’t panic; there are plenty of tools for your use in class.

• January 29 – 31, 2027

 

 

The shop opens at 8:30 am. Class begins at 9:00 am.  A delicious lunch, snacks, and soft drinks are provided. Class ends at 4:30 pm – the shop remains open until 5:30 pm.

The class is limited to a maximum of 4 students.
