Description

Make a 3D Cutting Board with Alex Snodgrass here in the Acanthus Workshop. You can learn how to make a beautiful, mystifying end-grain cutting board.

3D Cutting Board with Alex Snodgrass

This hands-on class begins by teaching you how to tune a bandsaw to make perfect cuts. Once learned, this skill makes future bandsaw use a breeze. You will then progress through the techniques required to make the cutting board: how to make dead-on straight cuts on the bandsaw, how to make accurate angled cuts on the bandsaw, and how to plane, sand, glue, and clamp the cutting board.

Using only three woods, walnut, cherry, and maple, you’ll work under Alex’s direction to make a beautiful and functional cutting board that you’ll take home. More importantly, you’ll go home with the knowledge and experience to be able to set up a bandsaw to make accurate cuts regardless of what you’re making. Oh, and you’ll be able to easily repeat the construction process to make enough 3D cutting boards for all your friends and family.

This is the smallest class Alex will teach anywhere in the country and the only 3D cutting board class he will teach in the region. Bench space will fill up quickly.

This class was so much fun. Alex and Chuck are excellent teachers. Other participants ranged from novice teens to experienced woodworkers–everyone went home with a beautiful board, completed except for finally sanding and finish application. I can’t wait to try making another by myself. The most fun and intellectual stimulation I’ve had since the world came to a pause in March. Thanks!

The 3D cutting board class with Chuck and Alex was absolutely fantastic. Chuck and Alex are incredible instructors. Class was small which gave a lot of one on one instruction. Not only did everyone go home with an incredible 3D cutting but the knowledge of how to setup your band saw properly, to cut the accuracy of the cuts needed for not only the cutting boards but any project. I can’t wait to return to Chucks workshop for the mid century bar cabinet in October. My hat goes off to Chuck and Alex. Oh, one last thing is the lunches are the best that Chuck and his wife served.

What a great class. I took the class on August 21 & 22. Alex and Chuck were very hands-on instructors and took the time to help each one of the participants. I learned a lot about cutting boards, better ways to do glue-ups, the proper way to use a jointer, and much more. We even had a lesson on setting up a bandsaw. We had a lot of laughs too. Thanks to my classmates too. All good guys.
Thanks, Alex. Thanks, Chuck. I’m looking forward to my next class.
