Description
Shapers are one of the more misunderstood machines in the workshop. In fact, many woodworkers avoid owning or using a shaper because they believe they are unreasonably dangerous. By eliminating the shaper in the shop based on irrational fear, many woodworkers limit their capabilities and the options available to them. In Shaper Basics we’ll dispell the mysteries surrounding this essential shop tool.
Shaper Basics
The shaper is much more than an oversized router table, and its capabilities are far greater. In Shaper Basics you’ll gain a broader view of how a shaper can increase the options available to you in the shop.
Some of the skills learned in the Shaper Basics class are:
- How to set up and calibrate the shaper for productivity and efficiency
- How to operate any shaper safely
- Using a shaper to make straight and curved moldings
- Joinery on the shaper
Materials are included in the class fee. Each student goes home with several essential jigs that can easily adapt to their shaper.
Each student should supply his, or her, own:
- Safety glasses and hearing protection
- Combination or machinist square
- Bevel gauge
- Tape measure or folding rule.
If you do not have the tools on the list, don’t panic, there are plenty of tools for your use in class.
