I thoroughly enjoyed studying and building the Hans Wegner-inspired round chair with Chuck. He presented the material in a well-structured manner, using a combination of brief discussions and demonstrations. What I appreciated most about the course was its comprehensive approach, covering everything from estimating dimensions from photographs to sketching working drawings and using power and hand tools to craft the chair. Chuck also broke down complex techniques into manageable steps, making it easier to develop new skills. The high-quality figured maple, cherry, and walnut lumber provided was an added, pleasant surprise for all of us.
Chuck’s shop is an excellent workspace, equipped with well-tuned, high-end power and hand tools in a beautiful location. I had the opportunity to practice pattern routing, finger joint cutting, mortising round legs, and shaping materials. A highlight of the course was chatting with Chuck about his extensive background and many builds. Attending this course has certainly made me a better craftsman, and I’m excited to apply these techniques to future projects. I can’t wait to return.
