Description

In the Tilt-top Table class, you’ll kick up your turning and joinery skills. The tilt-top tea table was often the center of civility in the 18th century. Originally created for serving tea to family and guests, the tilt-top table makes the perfect accent piece for any room.

Tilt-top Table

The five-day Tilt-top Table class begins with full-scale shop drawings. You’ll then turn the column, form the dovetail joints, and create the birdcage that allows the table to tilt and rotate.

Some of the skills learned in the Tilt-top Table class are:

  • How to create full-sized working drawings
  • Spindle turning techniques for efficient, effective lathework
  • How to make a dished tabletop

Materials are not included in the class fee. Lumber for this project may be purchased through us or on your own and shipped to our shop at least four weeks prior to the class.

Each student should supply his, or her, own:

  • Safety glasses and hearing protection
  • Combination or machinist square
  • Bevel gauge
  • Bench chisels
  • Carvers mallet
  • Dovetail saw
  • Marking gauge
  • Smooth plane or jack plane
  • Block plane
  • Tape measure or folding rule

If you do not have the tools on the list, don’t panic; there are plenty of tools for your use in class.

Course Dates:

  • November 09 – 13, 2026
