SUMMARY:Using Molding Planes With Matt Bickford
DESCRIPTION:Stop making compromises with your router. Stop getting close to the moulding profiles you want. Learn how to use some of the most abundant moulding planes of the past to get the exact detail you want in the Using Molding Planes with Matt Bickford class. \nUsing molding planes\nHollows and rounds do not make specific profiles. They make specific arcs. Learn to transform these various arcs into scores of varying profiles. \nFrom layout to execution\, this weekend class focuses on creating various moldings with these extraordinarily versatile planes. You’ll lay-out and ultimately stick (plane) several moldings that range from simple coves and ovolos through ogees\, cymas and various combinations. \nThe class focuses on hollows and rounds sized #6 and #10 along with a rabbet plane. Students have the opportunity to bring their own performing planes or they can use newly made planes by M. S. Bickford\, planemaker. Students also have the opportunity to use a larger range of planes. \nEach student leaves with a stick (or two) of moulding for a picture frame and the ability to transfer mouldings he or she sees in person or print into wood and onto their project.

SUMMARY:Make a Pie Crust Table – Hands-on Class
DESCRIPTION:Appealing to the carver in many woodworkers\, the pie crust table epitomizes the mastery of craftsmanship. In this week-long class\, you’ll make your own version of one of the most elegant pie crust tables in existence. \n  \n  \nPie Crust Table\nWhile the original upon which this adaptation is modeled is approximately 24″ in diameter and 28″ tall\, your project can be altered to suit your needs. If you want to make the top 36″ in diameter\, we’ll scale the project to match. If you want to carve acanthus leaf instead of shells on the knees\, then that’s what you’ll do. The beauty of making a project of this kind in such a small class is room for customization.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Shaded Fan with Bob Van Dyke
DESCRIPTION:A sand-shaded fan is a common decorative motif in Federal furniture and is often inlaid into the corners of tabletops and drawer fronts. The segments are shaded using hot sand and then put together to create a three-dimensional effect. Beyond the Shaded Fan goes beyond the basic inlay class. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nShaded Fan\nBuilding on the basic sand shading technique\, Bob Van Dyke (Ct. Valley School of Woodworking Director)\, introduces a series of other exciting possibilities. He has based the class on the basic ¼ sand-shaded fan design\, then expands into creating circles\, ½ circles\, and ovals with all sorts of attractive curved segments. The possibilities are fascinating\, and you can use the inlays in all kinds of projects. Include them in everything from a tabletop to a door panel or a drawer front to a box top\, a tray\, or even a wall hanging. Students have the opportunity to make a few 1/4 fans and then move on to ovals or half fans. \nDon’t miss this chance to learn new techniques that you can add to your woodworking projects.
