SUMMARY:Carved Elements\, Finials & Fans – Hands-on Class
DESCRIPTION:Looking to kick up your flat\, square pieces? Why not add some Carved Elements? \nCarved Elements\nAdding flame finials to the top of a piece or a carved fan to a drawer front can turn a good piece of furniture into something spectacular. Geared towards intermediate level carvers\, Carved Elements adds a level of complexity to challenge you in the shop. \nSome of the skills learned in the Carved Elements class are: \n\nCorkscrew flame finial layout\nHow to read grain direction in 3D\nCreating concave carved fans\n\nMaterials are included in the class fee. You are welcome to bring along a finial blank or drawer front for a project to be carved in class. This class compliments the Connecticut Highboy class perfectly (and you get a discount if you take both!).

SUMMARY:3D Cutting Board With Alex Snodgrass – 10/12 to 10/13 – Hands-on Class
DESCRIPTION:Make a 3D Cutting Board with Alex Snodgrass here in the Acanthus Workshop. Just in time for the upcoming holiday season\, you can learn how to make a beautiful\, mystifying end-grain cutting board. \n3D Cutting Board with Alex Snodgrass\nThis hands-on class begins by teaching you how to tune a bandsaw to make perfect cuts. Once learned\, this skill makes future bandsaw use a breeze. You will then progress through the techniques required to make the cutting board: how to make dead-on straight cuts on the bandsaw\, how to make accurate angled cuts on the bandsaw\, and how to plane\, sand\, glue\, and clamp the cutting board. \nUsing only three woods\, walnut\, cherry\, and maple\, you’ll work under Alex’s direction to make a beautiful and functional cutting board that you’ll take home. More importantly\, you’ll go home with the knowledge and experience to be able to set up a bandsaw to make accurate cuts regardless of what you’re making. Oh\, and you’ll be able to easily repeat the construction process to make enough 3D cutting boards for all your friends and family.

SUMMARY:Felder USA Open House
DESCRIPTION:I am appearing and demonstrating at the Felder USA Open House on November 7 & 8\, 2019. Each day I’ll present three seminars: Modern Milling Methods\, Shop-made Moldings\, and Double Raised Panels. \nIn Modern Milling Methods\, I take you through the process of creating flat\, true lumber for your projects. There is an easy to follow sequence used to achieve flat\, square\, accurately dimensioned material. I’ll demonstrate that sequence and explain why I perform each step in the specific order I have chosen. \nShop-made Moldings begins with profile design and quickly moves to execution. Many woodworkers struggle with figuring out how to make a specific molding profile with the fewest number of tools. I’ll demonstrate how I create a variety of profiles with a couple of hand planes and a limited number of router bits and shaper cutters. \nUsing a combination of hand and power tools\, Double Raised Panels shows you how to achieve a more dramatic look with minimal effort. While the origin of this technique may be rooted in tradition\, the design possibilities are endless. Raise your decorative woodworking skills to a new level. \n  \n
